Hey, Friends! Autumn is in full swing here in Toronto. The crisp temperatures transform me into a bit of a mood reader. I need books that feel like Fall. I have a few recommendations for you if you’re looking for the same! Just click the titles to go read the full descriptions and put any of these books on hold at the library!
We’re going to start strong with my favorite book of 2023. I could not put this down. Magic. Dragons. Friendship. Enemies to Lovers. Love Triangle. Underdog Story. The characters are flawed and funny and real and deep. The story is RICH and LAYERED. This book is my Roman Empire. This book planted roots in my brain. This book is getting a SEQUEL in November! Read it now so you’re ready for #2! If you love this book, you’ll also love A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas (series).
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows
This is one of my favorite books. I’d recommend it in any season, but it definitely checks all the “cozy” boxes for Autumn. It boasts charming characters, sweet romance, light humor, a bookish female lead, and a unique perspective of WWII. It’s a quick read that feels like a warm hug! If you love this book, you also need to read The Storied Life of A.J. Fickry by Gabrielle Zevin!
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna
I adore this book. You will absolutely fall in love with these characters, especially Mika Moon, the sweet and witchy leading lady! This one has magic, found family, a little grumpy/sunshine romance, and all the Fall vibes! If you love this book, also pick up The House in the Cerulean Sea by T.J. Klune!
The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
This was our September book club book, and I haven’t stopped thinking about it yet. If you like historical romance, you’ve probably already read some Kristin Hannah. She’s the queen! You’ll finish this book and feel forever changed by what you have felt and experienced. Light on the romance, this book is centered around family relationships, feminist themes, and the heartbreak and hardships during WWII and the German occupation of France. If you are ready to feel all the feels, pick this one up! If you love this book, be sure to read Firefly Lane and The Great Alone by the same author!
The Only One Left by Riley Sager
Ready for something a little less cozy? I just finished this new one from Riley Sager. The setting is super spooky, giving all the creepy vibes I just love for this time of year. I’m pretty sure even the serious mystery aficionados among you will miss the twist coming! You will inhale this thriller! If you love this book, also try None of This Is True by Lisa Jewell.
I hope you found something here that looks good to you! Again, the titles will lead you straight to our catalog, where you can read full descriptions and put the books on hold! Need help with your SEKnFIND account? Don’t hesitate to reach out!
